About Me

My name is Craig Taylor, hence my play on words around the phrase The Great Outdoors when creating this site.

I'm a qualified Mountain Leader (Summer), Rock Climbing Instructor, British Army Mapreading Instructor, have attended my International and Winter Mountain Leader Training and have been assisting on Frontier Bushcraft's field courses since 2019.

From an early age I could be found wandering around my local woodland with a Swiss Army Knife in one pocket, a tobacco tin survival kit in the other and a very dog-eared copy of Lofty Wiseman’s SAS Survival Handbook under my arm.

This love of adventure and the great outdoors never really left me as I progressed from the local Army Cadet Force to a 16-year career in the British Army.

Along the way I was fortunate enough to not only pick up a range of qualifications relating to outdoors life but also the opportunity to put them into practice in far flung such places as the Bavarian Alps, the jungles of Kenya and Belize, Red Rocks and Joshua Tree National Parks in the US, Norway, Spain, Cyprus and various areas of the Middle East.

I now live on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park (or Eryri, to give it it's correct Welsh name) where I continue to make the most of the great outdoors, albeit at a slightly slower pace than in my younger days.
