5 Ways To REDUCE PACK WEIGHT That You May Not Have Considered

Updated: Apr 9, 2022

Most of the time when I see people discussing how they can reduce their pack weight the conversations centre around how to shave off a couple of grammes by swapping this stove for that stove or saving a few ounces by using this type of cordage for tent guylines as opposed to that type of cordage.

Don't get me wrong, this type of thinking will reduce weight, but those savings are likely to be marginal and probably only pursued by those who are operating at the upper ends of weight saving efficiencies.

I believe that for most people there are some much simpler, more radical and quicker ways to reduce your pack weight.

I could sum them up briefly in the following 5 words

  1. Need?

  2. Bag?

  3. Surplus?

  4. Feet?

  5. Self?

But those words probably don't make a lot of sense on their own, so I dive into more detail in the video below.
