Getting Started With Using A Magnetic Compass For Navigation

In a previous post (see suggested post at the bottom of this page) I suggested a simple, safe, but incredibly effective way of getting started with the subject of understanding/reading a map.


In this post we'll progress to looking at a magnetic compass, which you can use in conjunction with the map to assist in your navigation.

As in the example of learning to read a map, it's easy to get caught in the adventure and mystery associated with learning how to use a compass and end up taking yourself off into the middle of nowhere...... not ideal when you're still learning the ropes (or compass to be more precise).


Instead, it's far safer and practical to become familiar with how a compass works in a familiar area, the video below shows you just how you can do that.
