The same, but different...

Back in January 2017 I created a YouTube channel to document my journey as a newcomer to the subject of 'bushcraft', the channel was called The Bushcraft Padawan

The word 'Padawan' is a reference to the Star Wars genre (of which I've been a lifelong fan), a Padawan being somebody who is a student/an apprentice/a learner; in other words I was a student of bushcraft.

Just about to achieve my very first fire by friction using the bow drill technique. This came at the end of a week long Bushcraft course with Paul Kirtley and the Frontier Bushcraft team.

Some 5+ years later, I still very much consider myself to be a student of bushcraft, however as I spent more and more time working on content for my channel I came to realise that whilst I was very much a newcomer to bushcraft, there were many areas of The Great Outdoors that I had significant experience and qualifications in.

I started including those areas in my channel so over time it morphed into something of a hybrid channel, with some aspects showing what I was learning/struggling with in terms of bushcraft and others being more about me passing information onto others round subjects such as navigation, living in the field, mountaineering etc.

This left in a quandary as the 'bushcraft' element was not broad enough and the 'Padawan/apprentice' element not accurate enough, it was time for a change...

Which brings us nicely up to date with this site - The Craig Outdoors - a not so subtle play on words to hopefully extend and more accurately describe what my online presence is all about.

Don't worry, none of the old content is going anywhere and nor am I turning my back on the subject of bushcraft that I know many of you originally followed me for.

Now that I've got that difficult first post out of the way, why not take a look around the site, let me know what you think and don't forget to subscribe to the site at the bottom of this page so that you don't miss any future videos or blog posts.
